WWE Superstars Taping Results (07/09)

July 2, 2009

Wrestling News World reader David Mayorga sent in the following report:

Superstars for 7/9/09 (no pyro opening):

* R-Truth def. Ricky Ortiz with a corkscrew elbow for the pin

* Zack Ryder def. Tyler Reks via the Zack Attack for the pin

SmackDown Taping Results (07/10)

Wrestling News World reader David Mayorga sent in the following report:

Smackdown for 7/10/09 (Show opens with music and pyro):

Jeff Hardy out to the ring with an eye patch over his right eye. Talks about CM Punk and his so-called "injury" Hardy says that he's never forfeit a match, has not given up, none of that. Kane's pyro explodes as he makes his way to the ring to take on Jeff Hardy.

Match 1: Jeff Hardy vs. Kane

Great opening match between both wrestlers with Kane having control throughout a majority of the match. Hardy goes for the Swanton Bomb off the top rope when CM Punk's music hits as he stands at the stage looking on. Kane takes advantage of a distracted Hardy and hits the chokeslam for the win.

Segment: Backstage with Teddy Long & John Morrison in Long's office talking about Morrison's upcoming match with Dolph Ziggler. Long leaves the room and out from the closet is Ziggler who is putting on his vest. Morrison tells Ziggler it's about time you had some luck.... Maria then appears from out of the closet and holds him from behind.

Match 2: Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison

This match spilled out of the ring on several occasions and a good match between the two. Ziggler picks up the win in upset fashion over Morrison.

Match 3: Melina & Eve vs. Michelle McCool and Layla

All four divas got in some offense in this divas tag match. I believe Michelle picks up the win for her team over Eve. After the match, Melina attacks Michelle from behind, sending her into the ringside barrier then delivers a clothesline to McCool sending her over the barrier and into the crowd. They are quickly seperated by the referee as McCool heads to the back while Eve restrains Melina.

Jeff Hardy out to the announce table to do commentary for the following match

Match 4: World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs. The Great Khali (accompanied to the ring by Ranjin Singh)

This was pretty much your typical Khali match against anyone. Kane interrupts the match, walking towards the ring with a steel chair in hand and an eye on Khali. Punk escapes from the ring as the two big men size each other up, staring at each other, seeing who will strike first with the steel chair. Kane delivers the first blow to the back of Khali but he does not go down. Kane attempts another chair shot but Khali *punches* the chair right out of Kane's hands and Khali retaliates with a chair shot of his own to the left arm of Kane. He retreats to the back looking on at Khali who is still in the ring holding his steel chair before tossing it down on the mat.

Match 5: Cryme Tyme vs. The Hart Dynasty

Shad and JTG lead with the early offense to start this match. Later, Natalya would distract the ref preventing Shad from winning the match then fall prey to the Hart Attack as DH Smith and Tyson Kidd pick up the win.

Segment: Chris Jericho is out to the ring first with the unified tag belts in tow. He talks about having a shot at breaking his own record and being a 10-time Intercontinental Champion.

Main Event: Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship

This match was given plenty of tv time. Mysterio his the seated senton on Jericho outside the ring early on in the match. Both competitiors exchange blows and holds throughout the match. Tons of near falls and close calls on both sides made this a great match to watch. Towards the end, Mysterio hits the 619 on Jericho follwed up with the springboard into the seated senton and goes for the cover but is attacked by Edge causing the DQ and Mysterio to retain his IC gold. The 2 on 1 assault continues on Mysterio as Dolph Ziggler runs into the ring and also attacks Mysterio as Edge and Jericho make their way to the back.

Dark Main Event: Edge and Chris Jericho vs. Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio in a tag team cage match

Nearly identical to the dark main event I reported last night except that both Hardy and Mysterio hit roll-ups on their opponents (instead of their finishers) for the quick win. By quick I mean this match lasted about 15 seconds. Afterwards, both Hardy and Mysterio rope walk along the top rope to each corner of the cage and pose for the fans.

On an interesting note, as Edge and Jericho made their way to the back, Jericho takes a Rey Mysterio sign from a fan at ringside and joins Edge on the entrance ramp as they tear the sign to shreds and scattering the pieces.
